Rhyno’s Roadside -- Where food brings us together.
Our hearts run deep with our community…
For years, Executive Chef Ryan Waesche juggled his full-time position as a Platform Manager at Motorola, studied Culinary Arts at Elgin Community College, and ran his own successful catering company. He transitioned to catering full-time until he had the unique opportunity to use his skills and passion to help others in a different way, serving the hungry and hurting with an organization called Mercy Chefs.
A disaster relief organization, Mercy Chefs goes directly into ravaged areas after tornadoes, floods, hurricanes, fires, and the like, to prepare, deliver and serve restaurant-quality meals to all in need, free-of-charge. Ryan volunteered full-time with the organization for two-plus years, and with the team prepared hundreds of thousands of meals.
Ryan’s heart runs deep with his community and he has served as the full-time chef with a local homeless ministry for numerous years, along with other organizations requiring food-related consulting and preparation. He and his wife, Robin, share this passion, commitment and love and additionally serve as active board members for Together We’re Elgin, and Ryan has served as the Vice President and Resident Chef with the Community Harvest Educational Foundation (CHEF) also in Elgin.
Ryan also works with Elgin’s Downtown Neighborhood Association doing food-related consulting and providing food demonstrations at various citywide events. His most recent work history includes food consultant, catering throughout Chicagoland, Executive Chef for Dream Foods (Elgin), and moonlighting as chef at both Dog’s Paw (Elgin) and Edelweiss (Norridge).
Now it is Ryan’s great joy to share his culinary musings, his love of barbecue (hand-crafting all of his own rubs and sauces) and his food truck dreams with the people we love from our great city of Elgin.
